Garage door openers - questions
|
Answers |
Can a neighbour's remote controls open my garage door?
How does a remote control work? |
The short answer is 'No if you choose one with sense'.
Up-to-date design is important here. Some do offer the
ancient versions They should be avoided.

How can I be sure that I can install garage door automation kit? |
Talking to us would be the first step. We are better suited to assess that aspect. One recent comment "You were
right Alan, it is so simple if it's done to your routine. The next one will
be a breeze"

| Are
garage door openers really so easy to fit to existing doors? |
Mostly the answer is "Yes"
The average DIY 'mechanic' (for want of a better word) can cope with the
installation. Just ask if there's any doubt in your mind.
We're happy to show (tell) you how to do it.
Curiously, the questions are never what we expect. |
|
Is my garage door secure?
What happens if I lose a remote and someone finds it. |
Two
answers to this one: The remote systems we supply are what are known as
'Rolling code' This means that each time a signal is sent to the
receiver it will be identified as the legal pre-arranged signal. Each remote
has it's own conversation with the receiver and is - to all intents and
purposed - identified as one of the family. If
the lost remote is used it will be inoperative on your system provided that the system has been
switched down and reset to register the existing remotes since the
loss occurred
The lost one is now useless and can never activate
openers unless registered.
We do not supply other than the system described here.
Some do offer an earlier system, which is less costly, and they rely on a switches system
which , though secure for most purposes, can be scanned and duplicated by
unauthorised scamps.More about remote

| How
much electricity do they use? |
Minimal usage when in
action. Comfy and Came garage automation quiescent current is 4.5 watts at
12 volts. Working around 350 watts for a few seconds. |
| How
do we get mains electricity to the garage from the house? |
The garage door opener must be operating from a dedicated
mains supply which can be supplied from a regular 13 amp circuit in most
cases. Cable must be laid in accordance with
current regulations and can be laid in a trench. |
|
|
I don't know anything about electricity. How do I get over that?
|
The mains electrics must be
set up to the correct standards but are a small part of the installation.
Some people have a local electrician handle that skilled work. |
|
What servicing is there to be done? How do I get to
grease the chain and garage door? |
That's easy to answer. Nearly never! Firstly the
chain on Came openers is so over specification when used for this purpose
that there is minimal, if any, wear. Very dirty or dusty environments
can be a problem, and light oil should be used.
Somfy door openers are self lubricating in the chain
department.
