To Openers
Around 18 months ago, I was given the task of trying to install an
operating system in my garage as there was no-one available in our
family to do it. I bought the operating system and already, upon its
arrival I realised the enormity of the task. The system was in multiple
parts, a jigsaw puzzle. Runner in three pieces needed
assembling and chains needed threading, Hours were spent puzzling over
the complexity of the instructions. Bits and pieces all over the place.
Eventually, I had the system built and then experienced the
joy of
fitting it. This aspect went on for a while, without a hitch until I
discovered that something should have been done at the start of the
process. So half an hour wasted sorting that.
With the
operator in
place the wiring needed to be connected up. Unless you have had
experience with electronics, this task proved to be difficult, there
were no instructions just a circuit diagram. After a bit of
trial
and error I eventually had the wires in the right places and had it
plugged in. The operator then required setting up.
It
seemed a wonderfully
complicated series of button holds and configurations. The operator was
erratic to say the least Wouldn't connect with the
remotes and thoroughly confused itself and me. This is state
of
the art? Computers, video recorder, and hi tech music, gadgets, and
games and whatever are childs-play Even when this machine was
working properly after almost destroying the garage door it was erratic
and jagged.
After
much debating, head
scratching and wrestling with my male pride I rang
the help
line and they guided me through a whole new sequence that had
no
correlation to the instructions they sent to me. After a lot
of
fiddling around the operator finally responded and worked. Then
followed a victory dance. Never
again
would I do this!
More
recently, 18 months
after the first episode, I received a phone call from a friend of the
family who had recently become disabled. The gentleman's operating
system had been fitted many years ago and had finally packed up,
He had
bought a new
operating system and asked if I would be so kind as to fit it for him.
My heart sank as I remembered the trouble I had last time, nonetheless
I agreed to install it. I went round to his house and looked at the
motor unit which was not at all like the one I have just described.
Surprisingly,
the runner
or track had arrived already constructed,
the only
assembly work needed was connecting the motor to the runner.
No
trying to thread a chain through a runner as
before, it was
all ready and set up.
All I
had to do was screw
a new fixing above the garage door and attach the motor to the joists.
Amazingly there had been a revolution, the systems circuit
diagrams actually had words on them and the wiring took all of two
minutes to set up. The learning sequence was clearly explained, it
located the remotes unlike the previous system. The garage
door
closed and then opened, a light flashed and according to
the instructions it was complete.
I was dubious, but both
the remote controls worked straight away, it opened and closed with ease, no problems, smooth
movements. And the job was complete! The installation was so easy and
uncomplicated that I have since recommended it to family and friends,
all who have purchased this system have had the same uncomplicated
installation experience that I had.
No
greasy hands to clean
either.
Our
family friend had
bought the garage door motor a Somfy Axorn 70 from you.
I’m
glad he did, for my sake as well as his.
